Abstract

With rapid developments in the technological
field and the increase in the variety of durable materials,
different designs have started to appear in the display
methods for archaeological finds. From to experts’ opinions upon the in situ display of underwater finds, designers have begun to develop new projects, and to create
sustainable designs by considering the balance of protection and use. Although many museums of underwater
finds have been established in different places and for
different purposes in the world, underwater museums
are a very new design approach, and today there are only
two examples. One of these has already been implemented and one is still at the project stage. Within the
scope of this study, a proposal was made to design an
underwater archeology museum in order to exhibit the
archaeological findings found underwater without bringing them to the water surface, and to provide easy access
to these finds by preserving them in place. In line with
this aim, the blue crab form, which is one of the important symbols of Kekova Island and its immediate
surroundings, located near Demre district of Antalya
province, was selected and three-dimensional modeling
was performed with a biomimetric design approach in
which nature is imitated as a museum form.
