Abstract
This study consists of a total of 16 silver coins of five
different Cappadocian Kings, which were registered in the
collection of Erzurum Archaeology Museum through
purchase and confiscation (court). The coins, which were
evaluated as a group for the first time, were identified
chronologically, dated according to the catalogue created
by Simonetta. The coins of the Cappadocian Kingdom in
the Erzurum Archaeology Museum are less well represented than other coins in the inventory. However, this
study is important in terms of contributing to the
comparison and evaluation of data obtained from similar
studies and hoard finds in different museums in Turkey.
From this research, it was determined that the coin, Cat.
No. 1 belonging to Ariarathes V was one of the coins
minted in “barbarian style” in his 3rd regnal year with its
style and undefined legend structure that differed from
the mints of the king in previous years. The coin, Cat. No.
2, belonging to Ariarathes VII, was minted in his 11th or
12th regnal year, and the coin belonging to Ariarathes IX in
the catalogue, No. 3 was minted in his12th regnal year. The
coins of Ariobarzanes I, represented in the catalogue Nos.
4-9, were minted in his 27th (Cat. No. 4), 28th (Cat. Nos. 5,
6) and 29th (Cat. Nos. 7, 8) regnal years. It is unclear in what
year the coin Cat. No. 9 belonging to Ariobarzanes I was
minted. The coins of Ariobarzanes III, Cat. Nos. 10-14
were minted in his 9th regnal year, and coin Cat. No. 15 in
his 11th regnal year.
